EC ICT Progress Report

April 20th, 2008

newsroom_en.jpg

More than half of Europeans are now regular Internet users, 80% of them have broadband connections and 60% of public services in the EU are fully available online. Two thirds of schools and half of doctors make use of fast Internet connections, thanks to strong broadband growth in Europe. These are the findings of a Commission report on the results achieved so far with i2010, the EU’s digital-led strategy for growth and jobs. The strategy, agreed in 2005, has led to a firm commitment to promoting ICT at EU and national levels. As of 2007, all Member States consider ICT development as one of the main achievements in their structural reform programmes. In parallel, the EU institutions have encouraged the building of a single market for online services and increased research funding. A single market for telecoms, promoting cross-border communication services, is, however, still in the making.

On the Way: European Children’s Radio (EuChiRa)

April 8th, 2008

EuChIRa

European Children’s Radio EuChiRa, a multilingual Internet Portal linking to European partnership projects is on the way. In cooperation with the Media Education Center in Belgrade (Serbia) we will produce six radio-shows between primary schools in Germany and different areas of former Yugoslavia. After the summer holidays six classes in London and six in Berlin will start cooperating together on projects. Already on air (in German) is the first broadcast produced in partnership with various schools and a radio station in Raciborz/Poland and Berlin. The Internet Portal EuChiRa is also open to sponsored partnership projects, like for example, by the EU program „Commenius” - the first broadcasts in German and English produced from partnerships between schools in Bavaria, Italy, Spain and Ireland are finished.
